Just a few thoughts on the Unlimited Blade Works route as of recently. Now for those familiar with the Fate/stay night plotline, we all know its about the journey of a boy maturing into a man. Basically, the common view goes something like:
Chasing an unattainable dream (Fate) -> Realizing the mockery brought forth by reality and living with it (Unlimited Blade Works) -> Acknowledging the fact that idealism is just a dream (Heaven's Feel)
Originally, I liked UBW out of the 3 due to the titular Reality Marble (Yes that's me being an immature fanboy at that time). But as I grow to understand the real essence of FSN, the interesting question that popped up in my mind is this:
Why is it that Archer could end up accepting his fate instead of still being hell bent on killing Shirou? Take note guys: This is the one bugger who would stop at nothing to erase his existence due to him being betrayed by his own ideals. Or rather in his own words, "ideals borrowed from another person". i.e. Kiritsugu. Its one thing for Shirou to realize the hypocrisy of his "save all at all costs" idealism and quite another to see Archer accepting his lot after N ages of feeling bitter over his decision as Emiya Shirou back then. imo at the end of the day, it actually boils down to Archer realizing that the real hypocrite has always been himself rather than the boy before him.
Case in point: Is the cynical Heroic Spirit EMIYA a product of his choice or just merely a puppet of a false dream? If its the latter, then there's no reason for him to hold back during the death duel with Shirou. Take note guys, not everyone can be Kishima Kouma. Even a Servant with sucky stats can easily off that kid.
To be continued...
